Some Hull householders had to flee with a few belongings

Hull City Council said anyone registered as a victim would receive a cheque from the authority worth 25% of their council tax bill for six months.

The allowances will see a Band A resident who was flooded receive �104 from the authority, with Band D residents receiving �155.

Carl Minns, leader of the council, said it was a "fair approach".

Mr Minns said: "We are working to ensure that every householder affected by the flooding receives financial support from the government's hardship fund.

"We will continue with our gold, silver and bronze prioritisation scheme, but appreciate that all of those hit by flooding should benefit in some way from the government funding.

"We feel this is a fair approach and we will be working hard to get the money out as soon as possible."

Mr Minns said any flood victims who had yet to register should contact the council on 01482 300300.
