University honour for Dame Kelly
Kelly Holmes
Kelly Holmes is being honoured by the University of Hull
Double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes will visit Hull on Wednesday to receive an honorary degree from the city's university.

Dame Kelly made history at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens by winning gold medals in the 1,500m and 800m races.

She will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree in a ceremony at Hull's City Hall at 1030 BST.

The university said it hoped to inspire and motivate its students by recognising Dame Kelly's achievements.

Prof David Drewry, the university's vice-chancellor, said: "By applauding determination and commitment, we believe our students are able to gain confidence in order to achieve success."
