Road safety schemes are helping to dramatically cut the number of motorcyclist deaths in East Yorkshire, police say. Humberside Police has been holding BikeSafe sessions where bikers can have their skills assessed and get feedback from force motorcyclists.
A spokesman said the events had helped to cut motorcycle deaths in the region by a third already this year.
A session is being held on Saturday at Astell's Garage, on the A18 at Laceby.
'Accidents avoidable'
Deputy Chief Constable David Griffin said: "Humberside contains some great biking roads and still enjoys relatively low traffic volumes. Sadly, last year we continued to see fatalities and serious injuries caused by rider error.
"These are almost always avoidable and BikeSafe is geared towards bridging the gap between those riders who have passed their test, possibly many years ago, and access to advanced training to improve riding standards and reduce casualties.
"I would urge those riders to get assessed by the BikeSafe team. They will be surprised at just how much they can improve their skills to make them safer and enjoy their riding more."
