Youths have been intimidating people on the sea front |
New powers are being used in an East Yorkshire resort to break-up gangs of youths causing trouble. A four-month dispersal order has been issued for the sea front and promenade area of Bridlington.
Locals and tourists have complained about youths drinking, shouting, swearing, assaulting other groups and causing criminal damage.
The dispersal order means police can order people to leave the area and not to return for 24 hours.
Nigel Brignall, anti-social behaviour co-ordinator for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: "The behaviour of youths is simply unacceptable.
"Bridlington has thousands of visitors each year and local people use the area to relax.
"They do not want to be harassed by youths who are intent on causing a nuisance."
A Humberside Police spokesman said large groups had been causing many problems on the sea front and members of the public had felt intimidated.
