Petition against waste plant plan
Campaigners opposed to plans for a waste-burning incinerator near Hull will be out this weekend collecting signatures on a petition.

Members of Holderness Opposing the Incinerator claim the Salt End area already has enough industrial plants.

Waste Recycling Group (WRG) wants to build the incinerator to handle rubbish from both Hull and the East Riding.

The campaigners have been backed by local Tory MP Graham Stuart who says the plans will be fought "all the way".

Landfill sites

Details of the incinerator were released by WRG on Thursday.

If planning permission is granted it could be operating in 2009 and would reduce the amount of rubbish going into landfill sites.

Heat from the plant would be used to generate electricity.

WRG claimed Salt End, to the east of Hull, had been chosen after it had looked at 100 other potential paces.
