Roads disrupted by heavy snowfall
Driving in snow
Some side roads are only passable with care
Heavy snowfall has caused disruption across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Conditions on the A64 between York and Scarborough were described as "bad" with drivers being stuck in queues for several hours because of blizzards.

Driving conditions were said to be "dangerous" in Barton, Wintringham, Driffield and the Lincolnshire Wolds. Parts of Beverley were also gridlocked.

In Scunthorpe, pupils were sent home from Henderson Avenue School after 11 teachers failed to reach classes.

Overnight gritting

On Monday, Humberside Police were called out to 44 separate incidents on the roads within the space of a few hours.

More than 100 gritters had been working throughout the night across North Yorkshire.

A police spokeswoman said: "Some roads need to be passed with care, although all routes are open at present."

Drivers in eastern parts of South Yorkshire are also being warned to look out for ice and snow.
