Parents get lines for bad parking
Pupils are to dress up as police officers in an effort to improve road safety outside two East Yorks schools.

Real police officers and traffic wardens will be joined by the children in uniform at All Saints in Hessle and Bridlington's Burlington School.

They will be looking for parents committing offences, such as causing an obstruction or not wearing set belts.

Guilty parents can either write out traditional school "lines" at a desk in the school entrance or pay a fine.

Leaflets about the use of mobile phones when driving and the benefits of walking to school will also be handed out to parents during the campaign which coincides with the start of the new school year.

Huw Roberts, of East Riding Council, said: "These sessions will be fun for the children but will also help drive home a very serious message about the need for safety and responsible behaviour at school sites."
