Colin Inglis is being investigated by North Yorkshire Police |
An inquiry into the way Humberside Police dealt with allegations of sex abuse involving the Hull City Council leader Colin Inglis is under way. The Independent Police Complaints Commission is examining claims that the force failed to investigate complaints on three separate occasions.
The allegations centre on Mr Inglis' time as a social worker at a children's home in Hull and are being investigated by North Yorkshire Police.
Mr Inglis has denied the allegations.
"Waste of time"
In 1997, Mr Inglis, who is also chairman of Humberside Police Authority, was the subject of an abuse investigation, but no charges were brought.
About the recent inquiry he said: "I think the latest investigation will prove to be a waste of time for both the Complaints Commission and Humberside Police.
"The Complaints Commission is obliged to investigate any compliant put before them."
Humberside Police confirmed a complaint has been made against them and that the matter has been referred to the IPCC.
The IPCC said it has two statutory duties when it receives a referral from a police force.
The first is to consider whether the matter should be investigated and secondly to determine the form of investigation, both in the light of the seriousness of the issue and the public interest.
