An investigation has been launched in Hull after a bridge in the city opened while cars and pedestrians were crossing it. There are reports that one man had to leap across the widening gap in the Drypool bridge over the River Hull during the incident on Wednesday.
Council engineers are examining why the mechanism was able to operate despite the traffic barriers being raised.
There are also concerns as to why the red warning lights were not flashing.
No-one was hurt during the incident.
