Party bans 'self-vote' councillor
A Liberal Democrat councillor in Hull has been suspended from the party after voting for herself to lead a committee.

Janet Toker went against her party's whip in a vote on who should chair the scrunity, environment and transport commission on Hull City Council.

The former deputy council leader backed a move by the controlling Labour group to make her the chairwoman against the wishes of her party.

She now faces a disciplinary hearing and could be thrown out of the party.

There has also been anger at a decision by Ms Toker to vote for a Labour party member to be made her deputy.

Ms Toker says she took a principled stand and has no regrets about her actions, claiming she voted with Labour because she felt she was the best person for the job.
