The company is sending out a warning to potential vandals |
Arriva Trains Northern and the British Transport Police have chosen an East Yorkshire gala to reinforce the need for railway safety. The train operating firm and the police have also selected Driffield Gala to begin a neighbourhood watch-style scheme for the town's station.
Arriva has asked residents to watch the area after youngsters playing there vandalised parts of the station.
Playing on or near railway lines was also very dangerous, the firm said.
The company is liaising with local schools to reinforce the importance of not straying on to railway lines or loitering at train stations.
Leaflet drop
Spokesman Peter Myers said: "Stations are for rail customers - not for people who are looking for somewhere to hang around.
"We want our stations to be a welcoming and safe environment for our customers and we are determined to ensure that people who try to use them as a place to misbehave are caught.
"It is also important to remember that playing on or near railway lines is incredibly dangerous."
Hundreds of leaflets are to be distributed to residents in the area to encourage them to get involved in the scheme.
