Visiting hours are being restricted at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The virus has spread across 19 wards at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.

Visiting hours have been restricted on most wards and people have been told not to bring fruit and flowers in case they transmit the airborne virus.

Earlier this week around 100 people were affected with the sickness bug.

Surgery threatened

The illnesses have been caused by the Noro virus which is a common cause of this type of sickness.

Medical director for Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust Dr David Hepburn stressed that the virus was not life-threatening.

He said: "The trust would like to reassure the public that for the time being it is continuing to provide the majority of our services.

"It is possible that we will be cancelling a number of planned surgical procedures over the next few days."
