The bridge's lifting mechanism will be checked |
Drivers in Grimsby face disruption with the closure of the town's Corporation Road Bridge for repairs. The road bridge, which lifts to allow boats into the Alexandra Dock, is to close for three days from 14 September.
Decking on the lifting section needs to be replaced to maintain the safe operation of the 76-year-old bridge.
Corporation Road will close between the mini-roundabout at the entrance to the Alexandra Retail Park and the junction with Victoria Street.
Pedestrians and cyclists will generally be able to cross the bridge, but it will be necessary to lift the bridge to carry out part of the proposed work, says North East Lincolnshire Council.
During this short period the bridge will be totally closed.
The actual work to be carried out is to replace panels on the wooden bridge deck of the lifting section and reseal the joints at a cost of around 8,000.
The moving mechanism and electrical control systems, installed in 2000 after the bridge was out of commission for 20 years, will also be checked.
