The bird flu outbreak hit the company's profits
About 300 jobs at a struggling food factory in East Yorkshire have been safeguarded after the business was sold by its parent company to a rival firm.

The Uniq plant in Driffield has been in difficulty since foreign supplies were hit by January's outbreak of bird flu and it lost a Burger King contract.

The factory has now been sold to a subsidiary of the Grampian Country Foods Group for 11.8m.

The division makes breaded chicken and turkey meals.

Uniq announced it was selling its poultry business in February.

The poultry division has been loss making since the end of its last financial year, when it made profits of 1m against costs of 4m.

Grampian Country Food Group, which produces fresh and frozen meat products, operates at 48 locations in the UK, Thailand, Portugal and the Netherlands.
