Home closure fought by protesters
Protesters fighting plans to convert a nursing home into a secure unit have vowed to keep up their fight.

About 500 people marched through the streets of Goole, East Yorkshire, on Saturday to make their feelings known.

They are objecting to proposals to convert the Holland House nursing home, in Hook, into a secure unit for people with personality problems.

If the plans are approved, the 36 elderly residents living in the home would have to move out.

'Worried to death'

Chairman of the Holland House action group Roger Smith said the residents' welfare was their first priority.

"Residents are being moved out, families are distraught and we're extremely concerned about that."

John Jaundrill's wife is cared for at Holland House, and he says the proposals would be devastating for them.

"I'm very concerned. My wife has, for the past five years, been in five different nursing homes.

"This is the fourth one that is de-registering. I'm worried to death."

The protest has won the support of Goole MP Ian Cawsey who has vowed to help the campaigners.
