Car criminals in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire will no longer have an easy getway if they attempt to flee traffic police. Road pursuits of car criminals were dropped by Humberside Police last year after worries over safety.
But now the force has decided to restart training mobile officers to deal with street pursuits in an effort to stem car crime.
New resources have been allocated to equip officers with pursuit skills.
Humberside Police have also applied to central government for funding to allow the use of the vehicle number plate recognition system.
The new technology would enable officers to point a camera at passing traffic so that stolen vehicles or those registered to wanted people can instantly be identified.
