Police will use alternative methods of dealing with car criminals
Police officers in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire have been banned from carrying out high speed pursuits.

The Police Complaints Authority found high-speed chases were putting the safety of the public at risk after carrying out an investigation.

They looked into more than 80 crashes involving police cars, across the country.

Over 90 people died in the accidents, many of which had occurred in built-up areas where there was a 30-mile-an-hour speed limit.

Officers will now use alternative methods of stopping or following suspect vehicles and occupants including the Stinger device and information relayed from the force helicopter.

Humberside Police say it has been their policy for some time, but has now decided to clarify the ruling for officers.
