The research will help neurologists in their diagnosis

The psychology department has been given a �150,000 grant to locate which parts of the brain control activities such as language, memory and perception.

It will enable neurologists to get a better understanding of conditions like Alzheimer's disease, memory loss and brain trauma.

Researchers will be using a technique called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TNS), in which a brief electrical current in a stimulation coil, producing a magnetic field, is applied to a very small area of the head.

Dr Michal Lavidor said: "This funding will allow us to find an answer to the question 'where' in relation to the spatial relationship between neural brain activity and human behaviour."

Although Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners are used to investigate brain lesions and traumas, the new TNS technique will allow doctors to be more accurate.
