Hospital workers strike over pay
Hospital porter
The staff taking action are employed by a private company
Hospital cleaners, porters and catering workers are on strike at hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole.

The stoppage on Friday and Saturday has been called by Unison as part of its campaign for better conditions and pay for the workers who are employed by a private company, Carillion.

The union claims the hospital staff employed by Carillion are worse off than those employed directly by the NHS.

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust says clinical services will be unaffected by the action.

But hospital restaurants will be closed with office cleaning also hit.

However, patients are being reassured their meals will be provided as usual.

A spokeswoman for Carillion said the company still wants talks to find a "constructive outcome" to the dispute.
