Warning over icy road conditions

Sledging on the Malvern Hills
About 240 schools across the two counties were closed on Friday

Drivers have been warned to take extra care as roads may be icy following freezing conditions overnight.

The Met Office and driving groups warned ice was making some roads extremely dangerous, while many councils were running low on road salt.

Main routes are being gritted in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, but many smaller roads may be untreated.

More ice is expected as temperatures overnight may plunge to as low as -7C in parts of the West Midlands region.

This could lead to melted snow freezing on the roads, forecasters warned.

Events cancelled

Many sporting events have been cancelled as a result of the weather conditions.

Hereford's League One football match against Brighton on Saturday was postponed. And Sunday's meeting at Hereford Racecourse was called off.

More than 240 schools closed in Herefordshire and Worcestershire on Friday due to heavy snowfall.

And the weather led to the ambulance service in the two counties using 4x4 vehicles to reach emergencies.
