Flood couple finally return home

Flooding in Upton-upon-Severn
Residents in Upton complained that barriers were put up too late

A couple are moving back into their home nine months after last summer's flooding forced them to leave.

Glen Green, who has multiple sclerosis, and her husband moved out of their home in Hanley Castle, near Upton upon Severn, Worcs, after it flooded.

Since June, the couple have been living in a caravan while builders carry out repairs.

She said she was "so excited" to be returning home and thanked friends for their support.

Residents isolated

"The furniture is coming home and we have a kitchen and we can be a family again," she said.

"I have to tell people that you can survive these awful happenings - I don't know how we did - but we have done it with a lot of help and support.

The Army took humanitarian aid to residents in Upton-on-Severn after heavy rain isolated residents.

The Environment Agency was criticised last July for not installing barriers quickly enough in the town during the flooding.
