Euro lottery scam warning issued
Two scams involving alleged lotteries in Europe have been reported in the Worcestershire area, police have said.

On Friday a Wolverley man received a letter from "Loteria Primitiva" saying he had won $615,000 (354,000) and asking for his bank details.

The man had bought a lottery ticket and was tempted to send off his details.

On the same day, a Kidderminster man received letters from the "European Bureau of Prize Draw Registry" saying he had won 20m.

A police spokesperson said: "Both men contacted police and were advised that these sounded like scams.

"Anyone who receives an e-mail or letter asking for their bank details or cash is urged to delete it or bin it immediately and to remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is."

February is scam awareness month and the Office of Fair Trading is running a month-long campaign to alert the public to various swindles.
