TB cattle test farmers meets MP
Emma Booton and some of the herd
Defra said the test was up to 95% accurate in finding the infection
Two farmers whose cattle have tested positive for bovine TB, but have refused to give them up for slaughter, are being visited by their MP.

Emma Booton and Samantha Qureshi, of Lower Snead Farm, Pensax, Worcs, have had eight cows quarantined.

They said they have had cows slaughtered in the past and then been told they did not have the disease.

Defra said the test was up to 95% accurate in finding the infection and guidelines said animals must be killed.

Bill Wiggin, MP for Leominster, said he wants to visit the farmers to get a better understanding of the situation.

No test 100%

Ms Booten said results from skin tests carried out on cattle at the farm two years ago showed four pregnant cows had the disease. They were killed but it later transpired they were healthy.

She said she would not cooperate with Defra because the skin test was not accurate enough.

A spokesman for Defra said no diagnostic test, including the tuberculin test, was 100% accurate.

Eight out of 100 beef cattle on the farm have tested positive for TB.
