Comments wanted on police merger
People in three counties are being asked what they think about a possible shake-up of their police service.

One option is for West Mercia Police to merge with a larger neighbouring force, but it has also submitted an option for it to stay as it is.

The police authority is asking people in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire to fill in a questionnaire.

Chief Constable Paul West and Paul Deneen, chair of the police authority, are urging everyone to have their say.

A series of meetings with local people from across the force area are also planned in November.

'Change is inevitable'

Chief Constable Paul West said: "West Mercia Constabulary is currently one of the best performing forces in the country but the challenge we have been given is to build a modern police service that can respond to the needs of the 21st century.

"It is clear that despite our outstandingly good recent performance, change is inevitable given the significant structural changes that are likely to happen nationally.

Mr Deneen said: "We want to hear local people's views and our site provides information on the restructuring process as well as the options being considered. I would encourage everyone to have their say in the coming weeks."

The survey, which is on the force's website, is also being sent to councils, other emergency services, Neighbourhood Watch associations and Crimestoppers, plus business and community groups.
