Sir Edward Elgar was the son of a music shop owner |
Two of the last surviving choristers to have sung under Sir Edward Elgar have been invited to a performance marking 70 years since the composer died. Michael Morris and Roy Blackler were singing when Elgar conducted The Dream at the Three Choirs Festival at Hereford Cathedral on 3 September 1933.
Two days later Elgar conducted what is thought to be his last performance.
The pair have been asked to attend a performance of The Dream of Gerontius in Hereford Cathedral on 20 November.
Geraint Bowen, cathedral organist and conductor of the choral society, said: "This is an amazing link with the past, and something which will make this a very special experience for our current choristers, which they will be able to tell their grandchildren about."
Sir Edward Elgar died in February 1934.
