School facing Christmas closure
Dwindling pupil numbers could force the closure of one of Herefordshire's smallest schools according to the county's head of education.

The 12 children at St Mary's of Hope Primary, in Hope-under-Dinmore, could be going into their final term.

Eddie Oram, Herefordshire Council's director of education, said there is a clear indication from the parents and governors that the school should close.

A public consultation is under way and the school could close by Christmas.

'Community view'

Mr Oram told BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester: "I don't think this has come as a surprise to anyone.

"I think this does represent the community view."

Meanwhile the school's head teacher, Gail Richards, said they have simply not been able to attract pupils.

"St Mary's is a good school," she said.

"We've always known it and Ofsted have said it and yet parents have somehow missed us and overlooked us."
