 Roberto the rabbit costs �9 a week to feed |
A rabbit has been recognised as one of the longest in the world. Two-year-old Roberto, a Continental Giant, was brought from Holland by Annette Edwards, 52, who owns Bunnyland pet shop in Worcester.
The Guinness Book of Records said the animal, which measures 3ft 6ins, is the longest rabbit it had heard about.
But Roberto will not be going into the famous book as animal records are not accepted to stop owners deliberately overfeeding their pets.
Girlfriend named Amy
Rabbit lover, Ms Edwards, says her super-sized pet who weighs two-and-a -half stone, was spotted by a friend on a visit to Holland, who knew about her passion for the animals.
She said: "I told her, 'I don't care about the cost, just do anything to get him'.
"Roberto was brought from a person who breeds Continental Giants in Holland.
"He is exceptionally long and has a big head, wide feet, and comes up to you to eat out of you hand.
Five carrots
"It took us a couple of months to get him and we paid �285."
A typical sized rabbit would cost around �2.50 a week to feed but Roberto costs a whopping �9 a week.
His daily diet is a cabbage, four or five carrots and two dog bowls full of his mix every day.
Ms Edwards, who has owned Roberto for three weeks, says the pet already has a girlfriend named Amy, and she plans to breed more rabbits with them.
