Archaeologists in Hereford have uncovered evidence of a 15th Century workshop. The remains of a furnace and metal workings have been found in Bewell Street behind All Saints Church in the city centre.
By piecing together the evidence, the archaeologists believe the city's inhabitants were living and working in the same space during Medieval times.
Archaeologist Cath Crooks described the discovery as a big surprise.
She said remains of a cess pit and kitchen rubbish had also been found.
The discovery indicates that the city's residents were selling their iron work from their front doors, she added.
