Mast is relocated close to school
A company which lost a battle with residents to erect a mobile phone mast near to their homes has erected another one close to a nearby school.

People in Claines, Worcester, staged a six-day vigil last month to stop the Vodafone mast being set up in a field on Cornmeadow Lane.

The mast was relocated close to the village's primary school on Friday.

Wychavon District Council say it was not told of the company's new plans and is seeking legal advice.

The phone company agreed to move the mast 400m further away from homes after the residents' protest near to the Cornmeadow Lane site.

At the time Vodafone failed to get prior approval for the site from Worcester City Council.

It later agreed to move the site to a shared mobile phone mast area under Wychavon District Council.

Now the erected mast is situated a few hundred yards away from the original proposed location.

Temporary site

John Head from Claines Primary School said parents would be angered by the change.

"Quite a few parents have voiced their opinions and grave concerns about the mast going up.

"About a fortnight ago protesters won the day with their campaign at the Cornmeadow site but now the mast has been put up just down the road, 400 yards from the school."

Jane Frapwell, from Vodafone, said the chosen location was only temporary and it was looking for a permanent site.

"We were recently looking for a temporary location but local people were not in favour of it.

"They suggested another site where there are already three existing mobile phone masts with other operators.

"Our mast is 100 metres away from the school and the antenna points away from it.

"We have complied with guidelines regarding this mast," she said.
