'Wasps' attack historic building
An historic building in Herefordshire is being attacked by wood wasps which have infested the timber.

A 1,000 structural survey has been ordered on the wooden Market House in the centre of Ledbury.

Ledbury Town Council is funding the survey amid fears that the Grade 1 listed 17th century building could topple over if nothing is done.

One of the pillars was damaged in the 1970s by wood wasp larvae, which feed on wood and can create cavities.

The Market House has already developed a lean towards the Top Cross end of town because of the damage done to its huge supporting pillars.

Checks will focus on damage caused by wood wasps to the pillars.

Structural engineers will assess the overall stability of the building and advise on the strength of the main beams.
