A Worcestershire man who was spared jail for causing an elderly woman's death in a road accident has been sent to prison for eight months after an appeal by the Attorney General. David Eversham, 61, from Bredon View Farm, Pershore, was given a 12 month suspended sentence at Gloucester Crown Court last September.
He had been banned for two years for causing death by dangerous driving of 73-year-old Patricia Dunnett.
But the Attornery General, Lord Goldsmith QC, argued the sentence imposed on Eversham was unduly lenient.
Three appeal court judges sitting in London agreed and jailed the former JCB operator for eight months.
The court heard that the accident happened as Eversham was driving his Rover on the B4632 Broadway to Cheltenham Road.
He failed to notice the car in front wanted to turn right.
As he swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle he collided with a car being driven in the opposite direction by Ms Dunnett.
Ms Dunnett died in the crash.
