County's links to cider explored
The history of cider has been chronicled in a new book by an author from Herefordshire.

Ciderlore, by Fiona Mac, traces the drink from the 1900s and looks at every aspect of the drink from the types of apples used in cider making to the pubs where it is sold.

Cider mills such as Bulmers, Westons and Knights are recorded in black and white photographs.

The 240 page book contains themed chapters looking at how cider production has affected the landscape of the county and became part of folklore.

Herefordshire has a long history of cider making. It was a popular and often safer alternative to water in the 1900s and children were baptised with it.

The book, published by Herefordshire firm Logaston, is being launched in the bottle museum at Weston's Cider in Much Marcle, on Wednesday.
