Park plans get cash boost
Hereford is one of the first places in the country to benefit from Government funding to create new 'living spaces'.

The Aylestone Park project in the west of Hereford, which aims to create a new public park for local people, has been awarded a grant of 100,000.

The money will go towards developing land stretching down Aylestone Hill to the canal at the bottom of Staniers Way.

Over the coming weeks volunteers will help plant trees and shrubs behind the houses in Wellbrook Close, which overlook the proposed new sports area.

In the New Year work will begin to clear the canal and develop wildlife conservation areas.

Money from the county council will be used to build an access road.

The project is expected to be completed by 2005.
