The council needs 15 new recruits |
The abuse directed at lollipop workers is causing a shortage of people prepared to do the job, according to a local authority. Worcestershire County Council said some of its lollipop staff have handed back their stop signs because of the way they have been treated while helping with school crossings.
One of the problems reported by the workers is pupils knocking off their distinctive headgear.
The authority said it is now desperate for extra wardens, and needs at least 15 new recruits.
The council said lollipop staff have also reported being shouted at by drivers who do not like being asked to move their cars.
The job is open to people under the age of 75 and pays 6.19 an hour.
Many councils across the UK have reported difficulties finding lollipop people, including Walsall, Bristol, Nottinghamshire and Glasgow.
