A man who nearly lost his hand in a lawnmower accident managed to save it by putting it in a bag of frozen peas.
John Farmer was mowing his lawn in Malvern when he got his fingers caught in the blades as he tried to adjust the cutting height.
He said he knew he needed to freeze the wound to stem the flow of blood and the peas were the nearest thing to hand.
Mr Farmer lost the tips of his fingers but surgeons were able to save the rest of his hand.
The 61-year-old retired electronics consultant said: "It all happened very fast.
"The pain was awful but I managed to put it to the back of my mind and I went on to autopilot.
"I grabbed the peas and buried my hand in the bag."
His 48-year-old wife Nicola drove him to hospital. She said she was in a worse emotional state than her husband.
