A Herefordshire man is attempting to set a new world record rowing across the Indian Ocean and raise money for charity at the same time. Mike Noel-Smith and a fellow ex-soldier are aiming to row their 22 foot boat nearly 4,500 miles from Western Australia to Reunion Island off Madagascar in 60 days.
The men, who have already embarked on the journey of a lifetime, are hoping to raise 250,000 for research into meningitis.
Their weighs one ton and is built to withstand any storms they may encounter.
But the men face meagre rations, harsh conditions and even shark attacks.
The trip has only been completed successfully once, and that was by a Swedish man in 1971, although no time was recorded.
