Police hope to find new recruits |
West Mercia Police officers will be out in force at one of the Midlands' biggest gay and lesbian festivals taking place in Birmingham over the weekend. They will be at the Birmingham Pride 2003 event to look for new recruits and to explain about the services the force offers.
Their presence at the festival follows West Mercia Police's launch of a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advisory group earlier this month.
Chief Inspector Nick Mason said an important objective is to tap into all parts of the community the force serves.
"We've realised that it's important that, if we're going to deliver the highest quality of service to everybody, the best thing we can do is speak to people to let them know what we're about, let them know what to expect from us and give them access to the services we provide."
The West Mercia force area covers Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
Birmingham Pride 2003 runs from Saturday to Monday.
