Bikers welcome safety measures
Motorcyclists have welcomed new safety measures on a road that claimed the lives of five bikers last year.

Work is due to begin on installing new reactive signs on the A339, between Basingstoke and Alton in Hampshire.

The signs will be placed on bends to flash a warning to road users if they are travelling too fast.

Steve Marshall, from the Basingstoke branch of the Motorcycle Action Group, believes the onus is on motorcyclists to reduce their speed.

He said: "My personal opinion is that there is no such thing as a dangerous road unless it is not roadworthy - as in not surfaced properly, potholes, etc.

"The A339 is a nice road to ride and what people do is ride it too fast.

"They have motorcycles that are not far away from race bikes and the bike will outride the rider, so as soon as they make a mistake the bike will have them."
