A poster campaign has been launched after a series of suspected drinks "spikings" |
Both men and women in a popular holiday resort are being warned about potential drug rapists after a series of revellers had their drinks spiked with drugs. Dorset Police said substances had been added to drinks in a series of "spikings" in pubs and clubs in Weymouth, Dorset, over the past few weeks.
No-one is thought to have been a victim of rape as a result of the reported incidents.
But Dorset Police has now launched a poster campaign, warning drinkers of the risks of drug rape.
Western Division's Licensing Officer, Karen O'Donnell, said: "Although it has been women that have been targeted, men should also be on their guard.
 | Dorset Police advice to revellers DO ask for bottles to be opened in front of you DO NOT accept a drink from a stranger or someone that you do not completely trust DO NOT share drinks or drink from shared containers DO NOT accept a lift home from someone that you did not go out with if you suddenly feel unwell |
"We are issuing warnings for revellers in Weymouth following a spate of suspected drink spikings in the past few weeks. "Anyone who suspects that their drinks have been spiked should contact the police or local hospital straight away so that samples can be taken before the drug passes through the body.
"It is a very frightening experience for the victim, having the same effects as a sedative.
"Victims will often look drunk, making them an easy target."
