Flowerpot home for new ducklings

The ducklings made their own way to Slipper Mill pond from a beer-barrel flowerpot

A Hampshire couple had a surprise when they arrived home from holiday to find a duck and her eight ducklings had taken up residence on their balcony.

While Allan and June Porter were away from their home in Emsworth, the ducklings hatched in a nest on top of a beer-barrel flowerpot.

The Porters' house overlooks the tidal Slipper Mill Pond.

The plucky ducklings followed their mother's lead and jumped 8ft (2m) from their nest into the pond.

They are all now making a home in the pond with other spring ducklings.
