Southampton Airport says 2007 was the busiest in its 98-year history. More than 1.96m passengers passed through the Hampshire airport, a 2.8% increase on its 2006 figures.
Chris Butler, managing director of Southampton Airport, said last year saw new routes and airlines operating from the regional terminal.
"We look forward to another busy year in 2008, and we shall continue to focus on providing an airport that this region can be proud of," he added.
New routes
Mr Butler also said that during December alone, more than133,300 passengers used the airport for both business and leisure journeys.
The airport currently serves 46 destinations with 14 airline and tour operator partners.
The most popular routes last year included Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow, Jersey, Guernsey, Paris, Dublin, Newcastle, Belfast and Amsterdam.
New routes included Frankfurt and Nice with budget airline Flybe, and Verona with Inghams.
Eastern Airways introduced its first ever French route, with a service to Angers in the Loire Valley.
The Channel Islands-based airline, Blue Islands, was a new airline operating to Southampton with daily services from Guernsey.
