The city of Portsmouth's network of more than 170 CCTV cameras is 10 years old this week. The cameras, run by a team of 11 staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, have led to a total of 15,000 arrests in the city, a council spokesperson said.
Ray Stead, the city's CCTV manager, said there had only been four negative "big brother" allegations about the cameras during that time.
The cameras were put up around the city in April 1996 at a cost of 680,000.
