A teenager is expected to begin the final leg of his attempt to become the youngest person to climb the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. Rhys Jones, of Cadnam, Hampshire, will begin the final hike to the summit of Everest on Sunday, the final mountain in the Seven Summits Challenge.
He hopes to reach the top on 17 May - the day he turns 20.
While Rhys's team goes via the South Col two other British teenagers will climb the North Ridge at the same time.
Other peaks
School friends Rob Gauntlett, of Petworth, Sussex, and James Hooper, of Wellington, Somerset, both 19, spent two years planning their epic trek.
Weather permitting, they also hope to reach the 29,035ft (8850m) peak on Wednesday.
Rhys Jones hopes his attempt will raise about �30,000 for the Wessex Heartbeat charity.
The teenager has also scaled Kilimanjaro in Africa, Kosciusko in Australia, Aconcagua in South America, Elbrus in Russia and Vinson in Antarctica.
A statement on the expedition website said: "All things going ok we should leave camp 4 around 10pm on the 16 May and make our way up to the summit.
"The team and I should hopefully be on the summit around 9am on the 17."
