Two-year-old Charlotte is fighting an "aggressive" viral infection
Charlotte Wyatt - the baby at the centre of a right-to-life legal row - is continuing to improve after a serious health scare, doctors said.

The two-year-old, who has been severely disabled since birth, has been fighting an "aggressive" viral lung infection.

Last week, a High Court judge ruled that doctors could allow her to die after her condition deteriorated.

On Thursday, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust said she was showing "continuing early signs of improvement".

New order

Charlotte, who was born three months prematurely with serious brain, lung and kidney damage, has been at the centre of a series of court battles over whether she should be given artificial ventilation if her condition worsened.

Mr Justice Hedley heard an emergency application from St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth last Thursday night.

He ruled that doctors treating Charlotte can now decide not to resuscitate her if they feel it would not be in her best interests.
