Five arrested after derby clash

Police did not want a repeat of the violence seen at last season's derby
The latest Premiership derby match between arch rivals Southampton and Portsmouth has passed off peacefully with only five arrests.

Hampshire Police said all five were Saints supporters who were arrested for minor public order offences.

Pompey won Sunday's clash at Fratton Park 4-1. More than 400 officers and dogs took part in the operation.

It was Saints manager Harry Rednapp's first return to the ground after he left the club and joined Southampton.

Ch Supt Dan Clacher said: "I'm extremely pleased to see that people headed the advice given and that common sense prevailed.

"Let's hope this sets out the standards for the coming years of football in Portsmouth."

Last year more than 100 people were arrested when hooligans rampaged through the streets of Fratton, looting shops and targeting vehicles, after Portsmouth's 1-0 win over Southampton on 21 March.
