Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the home of Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, is hoping to emerge victorious at the English tourism 'Oscars'. The dockyard, which is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar this year, is shortlisted in the Enjoy England Excellence Awards.
The ceremony is being held in London on Tuesday evening and is being presented by broadcaster Sandi Toksvig.
The Hampshire dockyard was nominated in the large visitor attraction category.
Other competitors shortlisted include a former 19th century workhouse in Southwell, Nottinghamshire; the Malmaison hotel in Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne; and the Wedgwood Visitor Centre in Burlaston, Stoke-on-Trent.
The annual awards are organised by the VisitBritain organisation and are now in their 16th year.
David Stanbridge, from VisitBritain said: "We have found some absolute gems right across the country and any holidaymaker can be confident they will enjoy a truly wonderful experience if they visit any one of these finalists."
