Right to life parents have baby
Newborn Christina Wyatt
Christina Wyatt was born prematurely
A mother who mounted a legal challenge to have her child resuscitated by doctors if she fell seriously ill has given birth to another baby girl.

The child named Christina Hayley, who was born prematurely, becomes Debbie and Darren Wyatt's fourth child.

Last month the High Court ruled that their two-year-old daughter Charlotte could be resuscitated by doctors.

Charlotte who has serious brain, lung and kidney damage is being cared for at St Marys' Hospital in Portsmouth.

She was born three months prematurely in October 2003 and was five inches long and weighed only 1lb (0.45kg).

Mr Wyatt told the BBC News website that he was relieved his new baby, which was born weighing 4lb 7oz (2.01kg), was doing well.

Legal battle

"I feel really happy that the baby is ok, even though she is in intensive care," he said.

"It's a shame, because Charlotte is in the same hospital, that Charlotte can't go and see her new sister."

He said Charlotte was unwell with a cough.

In October, a judge lifted an order not to ventilate Charlotte, but said doctors still had the final decision on taking action which would end her life.

Previously, doctors had said that Charlotte had "no feelings other than continuing pain" and if she became seriously ill it would not be in her best interests for them to attempt resuscitation.

But the Wyatts claimed that she was continually improving and now smiles, reaches out to them and tries to talk.
