A dog warden is appealing for more animal-lovers to come forward to help re-home a city's stray dogs. More than 250 strays are found in Portsmouth every year, about half of which need new homes. The rest are reunited with their owners.
Dog warden Lisa Childs says animals not claimed within a week must be re-homed, but that the city kennel is constantly struggling to find willing keepers.
She said: "Since the beginning of the year we have picked up about 43 dogs".
Anyone who is interested in taking one of the dogs is asked to contact the kennel.
