Parents and children will have 70 book titles to choose from |
Parents are to be encouraged to read alongside their children as part of a national programme aimed at halting the decline in use of public libraries. Southampton families will have 70 books to choose from under "Got Kids? Get Reading!" - a library-led scheme promoting reading for pleasure.
Parents and children from Weston are taking part in the six-week project.
Last year, a charity which campaigns to improve UK public libraries, claimed they will be out of use by 2020.
The city council is one of eight library authorities across the country chosen to run the reading scheme - created by the Reading Agency and Literacy Trust.
The programme will be launched at Sure Start, Foxcott Close, Weston, on Thursday.
