There was a problem with the 106m liner's propulsion system |
Repairs are still being carried out to the troubled liner Aurora before it can finally set sail on its luxury cruise around the world. The 200m P&O vessel was due to depart for the trip on 9 January but instead had to cruise around the Isle of Wight to test propulsion system problems.
The ship has undergone repairs and sea trials in the Solent.
She returned to Southampton on Tuesday but her departure was delayed again due to the propulsion motor problems.
Compensation offer
It was hoped that the liner would be able to leave on Wednesday.
Two hundred passengers have left the ship despite being offered free hospitality while awaiting departure.
The trip is now expected to take 93 days instead of 103, with some smaller ports left out of the revised itinerary.
P&O have said that passengers will be compensated for the loss of days or offered a full refund if they do not want to go.
It is not the first time passengers on the liner have encountered problems.
In 2003, more than 1,000 people fell ill with a virus on board.
